500-600 cars expected in Denzinger funeral procession

STAFF REPORTS
newsroom@newsandtribune.com

Some roads along a funeral procession route for Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Officer Frank Denzinger will be temporarily closed Saturday, an official said Thursday.

About 500 to 600 vehicles are expected to leave Floyd Central High School — where the funeral will be held — at between 12:30 and 1 p.m., said Darren Sroufe, chairman of the Fraternal Order of Police critical-incident team and the memorial committee. The funeral begins at 11 a.m. at FCHS.

Sroufe said residents and business owners are encouraged to lower flags to half-staff and hang or hold appropriate memorial signs along the procession route.

The vehicles will leave FCHS and travel down Old Vincennes Road, and the intersection of that road with westbound U.S. 150 will be closed to allow funeral traffic to pass.

The procession will continue west on U.S. 150 to Interstate 64 and then will continue west and exit at Lanesville — exit 113 —and then turn left on Ind. 62. Cars will then turn left on St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Road and arrive at the church’s cemetery. Traffic will be held up at various locations along the route.

The public is invited to the funeral and burial, Sroufe said. Parking at FCHS is reserved for funeral attendees only. Runners participating in the Run for the Hills and other visitors not attending the funeral are asked to park in the school’s sports complex lot along Edwardsville-Galena Road.
