For the annual Colgate Park Easter Egg Hunt in Clarksville, Parks Superintendent Brian Kaluzny orders 4,000 brightly colored, plastic eggs and it takes him about an hour to set up. But it only took the 150 kids that attended the event 30 seconds to scoop them up into their Easter baskets.
“It’s amazing how quick all those eggs can be picked up,” Kaluzny said.
Though he didn’t hide the eggs — they are mostly just scattered in the grass around the park — the kids still got plenty of enjoyment from the marathon egg-grabbing extravaganza.
Kennedy Cozzin filled her Easter basket to the brim. The 7-year-old’s favorite part of the day isn’t finding the eggs,
though, it’s “hugging the Easter Bunny.”
“One time I saw a real Easter Bunny,” she said. “Not an Easter Bunny — a bunny bunny — the night before Easter.”
Cozzin will spend Easter decorating eggs with her mother and grandparents, “because my papa loves Easter eggs,” she said.
The Easter eggs at the park Saturday weren’t edible themselves, but they were filled with candy and prizes. The Parks Department gets the eggs pre-stuffed from a local charity for the event, which has been going on at Colgate Park for about 14 years.
And for all the kids, finding the eggs is the best part of the day. Even the Easter Bunny enjoys it.
