A New Albany man required by law to register as a sex offender was arrested Thursday for allegedly failing to do so, officials say.
Luther Morton Kemp, 57, of West Main Street, is charged in Floyd County Circuit Court with class D felony failure to register as a sex offender, said Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin in a news release. That offense could lead to six months to three years incarceration and a $10,000 fine if Kemp is ultimately convicted.
Goodin said Kemp was arrested at a New Albany gas station without incident and taken to Floyd County Jail, where he awaits an initial hearing on the charge.
As the ISP Sellersburg Post released the information after court business hours, further information about the charge was unavailable as of publication deadline.
