Clark County Sheriff's Department Officer Mark Meyer, wounded last month in the line of duty, is recovering at home from his injuries, according to the sheriff.
Meyer, 27, was shot by Douglas Damon Frakes Jr., 33, while responding to a domestic dispute in New Washington, said Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden. Meyer was wounded in his cheek, head and shoulder and underwent multiple surgeries at University Hospital in Louisville.
Frakes, who got “tanked up” at a nearby bar and wanted to “kill police officers,” was found in a nearby field dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Rodden said.
Meyer — a five-year veteran of the department and former corrections officer — is expected to make a complete recovery, Rodden said Wednesday.
“He really is doing very well,” Rodden said. “He still has his jaw wired, but is looking great and things are going very positive considering the situation.”
Meyer is married and the father of a 1-year-old daughter. He will likely be off work a couple of more months, and is expected to eventually return to full duty, Rodden said.
