ROAD-RAGE CASE: Police seek to have Parrish’s gun license revoked

By MATT THACKER

Even if Yalanda Parrish is not indicted for her road-rage shooting this month, she may not be allowed to carry a handgun any longer.

The Jeffersonville Police Department has sent a request to the Indiana State Police, requesting that her gun license be reviewed. They hope the state will revoke her license.

Detective Charlie Thompson said a license can be suspended for a felony arrest or “improper or reckless use of a handgun.”

“When it’s been pulled out twice, I’d say that’s improper or reckless,” he said. “Carrying a handgun is not a right you have. It’s a privilege,”

Reports from the June 17 road-rage shooting — when Parrish, 39, of Jeffersonville, admits to shooting Wesley Mosier Jr., 52, of Corydon, and an incident earlier this year where Parrish pulled a gun on a motorist and then called 911 have been sent to ISP.

Lt. Jerry Berkey of ISP said Parrish likely would have to go to a revocation hearing in Indianapolis if she wanted to keep her license. He said he was not aware if the department had received a request to revoke Parrish’s license. Once it is received, a decision could be made within a week.

Although it would be easier to revoke a license if Parrish is convicted, there does not need to be a conviction, Berkey said.

Thompson said he has requested to have gun permits revoked about three times in the past.

Parrish’s attorney, Brian Butler, said he will have to review the request before commenting.
