Arrest made in death of 2-year-old Scottsburg boy

An Austin man was arrested Friday afternoon for the murder of a 2-year-old Scottsburg boy, an Indiana State Police press release says.

Jason C. Hensley, 26, of 504 S. U.S. 31, Austin, was arrested at his apartment without incident and taken to the Scott County Jail. He is an acquaintance of the mother of the murdered 2-year-old, Jacob M. Lord, who died Wednesday, the release says. The arrest warrant for murder was issued Friday out of Scott County Circuit Court for murder and class A felony battery.

Detectives for ISP were contacted early Wednesday by the Scott County Department of Child Services in reference to a 2 year old child who was seriously injured. Lord, who lived on South Second Street in Austin, was originally taken to the Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg by his mother with life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced dead that evening.

An autopsy was performed on Lord on Thursday. The Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville was able to determine the preliminary cause of death was an inflicted closed-head injury.

This case is still under investigation.
