H1N1 vaccines to be given Wednesday

The Clark County Health Department will be holding an H1N1 vaccination clinic Wednesday for children ages 6 months to 5 years old.

It will be from 1 to 7 p.m. at Nolan Fieldhouse, 5010 Progress Way, Sellersburg.

Consent forms must be filled out for each child. It is available at the clarkhealth.net Web site in English and Spanish. Forms also will be available at the event.

Clark County SWCD seeks candidates for board of supervisors

The Clark County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is seeking individuals interested in natural resources management to serve as a district official in an elected position on the district’s five-member board of supervisors, serving from Jan. 2010 to Jan. 2013, with a registration deadline of Nov. 27.

Clark County SWCD is a legal subdivison of state government responsible for the protection, conservation, and wise us of the soil, water and related natural resources within the county. SWCD brings educational, technical and financial assistance to bear on the conservation problems of the county. Activities of the district are directed by the five supervisors, three who are elected by local landusers and two appointed by the State Soil Conservation Board. The board meets the first Thursday of each month to plan and oversee efforts aimed at fulfilling the district’s responsibilities. Supervisors receive a salary per diem when engaged in district business. Candidates must be of voting age, reside in the county, and own or rent more than 10 acres within the county.

The Jeffersonville Drainage Board will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jeffersonville City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.

Operation Shoebox seeks gifts

Bowles Mattress Company at 1220 Watt St., Jeffersonville, will serve as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project, to provide toys and necessary items to children suffering from poverty and war worldwide.

This year, organizers hope to collect 1,600 gift-filled shoe boxes from families, kids, churches, schools and civic organizations in the area. Bowles Mattress Company’s hours for accepting donations are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 16-20; 8 a.m. to noon, Nov. 21 and 23; and 2 to 3 p.m. and by appointment, Nov. 22. Operation Christmas Child uses tracking technology that allows donors to “follow your box” to the destination country where it will be hand-delivered to a child in need. Authors Faire scheduled at Galt House

The Almost Famous Authors Faire, the first book fair of its kind in the Kentuckiana area, will be Saturday at the Galt House in Louisville.

The fair will showcase the ‘almost famous’ authors who need a little more exposure. Authors will be available to sell and autograph each of their books to the general public. Regional and national authors are expected to attend and there will be an reception for all registered authors Friday evening.

The fair is free to the public; authors pay a small fee.
