NAPD arrests man on warrant for cocaine

A 28-year-old New Albany woman was robbed in the parking lot at Kmart, 3525 Grant Line Road, after a man splashed her in the face with a liquid, according to police.

A New Albany Police Department press release says that the woman knows the man who attacked her and stole her purse. He called her at about 2 p.m. and “lured” her into the parking lot, the press release says.

The alleged robber called her phone stating that his truck broke down and he needed assistance. She told police that when she arrived, the man got in the front seat of her car and splashed a liquid substance — possibly vinegar — in her face. The man took her purse and fled the scene.

Police state that the woman refused medical treatment.

NAPD Capt. Keith Whitlow said the case is under investigation and that an arrest is probable.

Police: Man swallowed bag of crack cocaine

A New Albany man was arrested Monday evening on a warrant for possession of cocaine and other related drug charges.

Bernard Lee George, 50, of the 1800 block of East Elm Street, was arrested at his home at about 7:30 p.m. by members of the NAPD’s FLEX unit.

A warrant was issued Thursday for George’s arrest on charges of the class D felonies possession of cocaine and maintaining a common nuisance and the class A misdemeanors of resisting law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, NAPD learned George and another man had been to Louisville buying crack cocaine. When they returned, officers found George chewing on something and then swallowing. George reportedly tried to fight with an officer before being arrested.

He admitted later that he had swallowed a small bag of cocaine, court records state.

George was taken to the Floyd County Jail on $10,000 court-cash bond pending an initial hearing. He faces one to eight years in prison if convicted of all charges.
