Sellersburg employees may see pay increase

By MATT THACKER

The Sellersburg Town Council will vote Monday on an ordinance to raise salaries of nonelected employees by 1 percent.

The salary increase will not affect the town council, judge, attorney, clerk, treasurer, public works director, building commissioner, sewer inspector or police chief, Council President Brian Meyer said.

Meyer said that the employees are overdue for a raise.

“The employees, rank and file, went without a raise for two years,” he said.

He said the town also will begin to pay half of the employees’ retirement fund.

Gov. Mitch Daniels said earlier this week that public employees at all levels in Indiana should consider foregoing a pay raise in 2009 because of the struggling economy. The Charlestown City Council is expected to consider raising its members’ salaries and increasing Mayor Bob Hall’s salary by 37 percent. That vote also could come Monday.

The Sellersburg Town Council also will vote on an ordinance to continue reimbursing employees for uninsured medical expenses.

Also on the agenda are discussions concerning the purchase of Nolan Field House and approving the order of the Sellersburg Plan Commission.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Council Meeting Room at 316 E. Utica St.
