Two men are being held in the Floyd County Jail for allegedly stealing an automatic teller machine from a convenience store in Greenville on June 24.
The identities of the men were not available at press time Saturday, but Floyd County Sheriff’s Detective Capt. Jeff Topping said Deputy Phil Davis arrested the men Friday along Grant Line Road after locating a truck matching the description given by witnesses as the vehicle used in the theft.
Officers responded to the Sav-A-Step in the 9200 block of Ind. 150 at about 3:14 a.m. Wednesday, where they found a full-size pickup truck had been used to drive through the front of the store and strike the ATM. The impact of the crash loosened the ATM — which was chained to the floor — and the men loaded it into their truck and drove away.
A passing motorist saw the men driving their truck into the store and called police. He gave dispatch operators a description of the truck — a dark blue and silver early- or mid-90s Chevrolet pickup with “CHEVROLET” spelled out across the back of the truck.
During their investigation, officers were able to see one of the men on the store’s surveillance video.
