New Albany Mayor Doug England has appointed Suellen Wilkinson to the city’s Board of Public Works and Safety.
She will take the place of Deputy Mayor and Director of Community Development Carl Malysz, who had been serving on the board for most of the year.
“Suellen is an accomplished civic leader. She is an excellent role model for those wanting New Albany to progress — citizens must be willing to get involved,” England stated in a news release.
Wilkinson, who resides in New Albany with her husband Ed, is the retired business operations manager of the Carnegie Center, where she worked for 16 years.
She is a life-long Democrat and a native of Wisconsin, and a present or past member of several civic-organizations including the Arts Council of Southern Indiana, Leadership Southern Indiana, the New Albany Business and Professional Women, Rauch, Inc. and Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
“I am proud that she accepted this opportunity to be part of New Albany’s team,” England said.
The three-member board consists of President Matt Denison, City Controller Kay Garry and Wilkinson.
Malysz said he was asked to step down from his position by the mayor, but supports the decision.
“Suellen is a top-notch citizen — intelligent, diligent and honest. It will be a pleasure working with her,” Malysz said.
Streets closed due to repair work
The Board of Public Works and Safety announced two projects that will require shutdown of major streets in New Albany.
