Sleeping girl nearly struck by shots fired into New Albany homes

The New Albany Police Department is investigating shots fired into two occupied homes on the 1100 block of Ekin Avenue Sunday morning.

Numerous bullets struck one home that was occupied by six people, according to an NAPD press release. There were four children, from 3 to 12 years old, living in the house. One bullet just missed a girl who was asleep on a sofa, police say.

A neighboring house and a parked car were also hit by the gunfire that was reported just before 4:30 a.m.

Police say they have not determined a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

Suspect steals purse in robbery at Greenville store

An armed robbery was reported Saturday at the Greenville Mini Mart.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department reported in a crime bulletin that a male subject entered the store, displayed a weapon and demanded money. A purse was taken from a customer during the robbery.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black jacket with the hood up and dark pants.

Witnesses were unable to determine the direction the suspect ran or if he left in a vehicle.
