Police search for suspect in robbery at Greenville Mini Mart

Man reportedly stole woman’s purse before fleeing store

An armed robbery was reported Saturday at approximately 12:40 p.m. at the Greenville Mini Mart, located at 9767 U.S. 150.

A black male suspect entered the store and displayed a weapon, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Detective Joel White said. Police believe the man intended to rob the store, but he waited as a worker at the deli finished making a sandwich. As he waited, the suspect reportedly stole a customer’s purse, but police say the robber was scared off before he had a chance to take money from the store.

“While he was waiting, he took a customer’s purse. When he turned around, the cashier or clerk was on the phone (calling 911). He ran out of the store,” White said.

The suspect is possibly about 5 feet 8 inches with a muscular build. He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up and dark pants. He was also wearing black gloves and a hat.

White said another suspect was outside the store waiting in a beige Cadillac that they believe was used as the getaway vehicle. White said the vehicle had been seen in the area earlier. Witnesses said they saw that vehicle earlier in the day and that its license plate was covered with newspaper, White said, but no one called police to report it.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have been in the store just prior to the robbery. They believe there are some customers who likely saw the suspects or their vehicle and could provide them with a better description.
