Sleeping girl nearly struck by shots fired into two New Albany homes

The New Albany Police Department is investigating shots fired into two homes on the 1100 block of Ekin Avenue Sunday morning. One bullet barely missed hitting a 12-year-old girl as she slept on the couch, police say.

Just before 4:30 a.m., numerous bullets struck a home that was occupied by six people, according to an NAPD press release. There were four children, from 3 to 12 years old, living in the house.

One bullet went through the living room wall and “nearly exited the fabric of the couch where (the) victim was sleeping,” an NAPD report states.

A Hyundai Accent in front of the house was sprayed with six bullets, and a neighboring house was also hit a couple of times. No one was injured.

No arrests have been made, but the police report notes that a 29-year-old woman who lives in the house had recently ended a seven-year relationship with her boyfriend. She said there was an altercation Saturday night between some of her girlfriends and her ex-boyfriend and his brother at JT’s Variety Club in Louisville.

One of the women living at the house had recently reported having her tires cut, the report states.

Police found four .40-caliber brass casing and three 9 millimeter casings in the intersection of Ekin Avenue and 11th Street.

The family declined to talk about the incident when contacted by The Tribune.

Man charged with drug possession after wreck

A 19-year-old New Albany man was arrested Saturday on drug charges during an investigation into an automobile accident.

Joshua Lee Proffitt, of the 1900 block of Silver Street, was reportedly involved in an accident that occurred at about 6:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Bono Road.

Proffitt was found to be illegally in possession of the prescription drug Xanax and Lortab, according to a New Albany Police Department press release.

Proffitt is preliminarily charged with class D felony possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with operating while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor.

He is being held in the Floyd County Jail on $5,000 court cash or surety bond awaiting an initial hearing.



New Albany man accused of hitting four pedestrians

Four people walking on Baxter Avenue in Louisville Sunday morning were struck by a car, according to newsgathering partner WLKY-TV.

The police incident report states Brian Tindall, 30, hit the pedestrians and then got out of his vehicle and walked away. Tindall’s blood-alcohol content was reportedly twice the legal limit.

The four victims were transported to University Hospital in Louisville with various injury. At least one had a head injury, while others had broken bones. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Other media outlets have reported Tindall is from New Albany.
