Police investigate report of shots fired on Dewey St.

NAPD rounds up three wanted on felony charges

The New Albany Police Department is investigating reports of multiple gunshots heard outside an apartment complex on the 1600 block of Dewey Street at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers spoke with at least two people living in the area that said they heard shots fired. One person said he overheard men talking outside the window to his home, while another reported seeing a man in dark clothing in the area when the shots were fired.

Although police were not able to locate any shell casings or evidence of any damage, NAPD Capt. Keith Whitlow said the witnesses seemed credible based on the report.

This incident comes one week after an armed robbery was reported on the same block of Dewey Street. A day later, a woman was arrested for dealing hydrocodone at her home on that block.

Whitlow said police have no indication any of the incidents are related.

Police arrest three on various felony warrants

NAPD arrested three people Tuesday on outstanding felony arrest warrants, according to a press release.

David L. Dunn, 59, of the 100 block of East 16th Street in New Albany, was arrested at his home at 11 a.m. He is charged with theft and unauthorized entry of a vehicle.

Brent Douglas Torstrick, 29, of the 1900 block of Center Street, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. on a Floyd County warrant charging him with failure to appear on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and driving while suspended.

Sherrie Yates, 29, of the 700 block of East Spring Street, was also arrested at her home on a warrant out of Jefferson County, Ky. She has been charged with fraudulent use of credit cards and escape in the second degree.

All three are being held in the Floyd County Jail awaiting an initial court appearance.
