A 22-year-old woman wanted since September for a burglary spree across Southern Indiana counties is in police custody.
Amanda L. Coomer, 22, was arrested at America’s Best In and Suites on Eastern Boulevard in Clarksville last week. She was arrested on seven active warrants by Indiana State Police and Floyd County Sheriff’s Department officers.
Coomer previously told detectives she and two men had committed as many as 100 burglaries in four counties. David A. Banet, 25, and Steven M. Ferguson, 30, were charged in September with class B felony burglary and class D felony theft in Floyd County in connection with the crime spree. Both men already were in the Floyd County Jail on other charges.
Coomer, who had reportedly been cooperating with police, then allegedly went on the run.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Chief Ted Heavrin said the accused burglars allegedly targeted mobile homes in rural areas where they would not be seen by many people. The three suspects face felony charges related to burglary, theft and residential entry in Crawford County. They are charged with burglary, a class B felony, and theft, a class D felony, in Washington County and face the same charges in Clark County.
Coomer has three pending cases in Floyd County, including class D felony theft and class B felony burglary, forgery and check fraud.
At an arraignment hearing Friday in Clark County Circuit Court, bond was set at $20,000 court-cash or surety. If she posts bond, she would be transported to the other counties where she faces charges before being released.
A public defender was appointed for Coomer, and a jury trial was set for March 2 in Clark County.
Man accused of sending obscene photos to minor
A 21-year-old man living in Jeffersonville was charged with sending an obscene picture to a 12-year-old girl he reportedly met at the Jeffersonville Public Library.
Isac Guillermo Campos is charged with class C felony forgery and class D felony dissemination of matter harmful to a minor.
The investigation began Nov. 1 after the girl’s mother reportedly found the image on the phone, according to a probable-cause affidavit.
The girl told police that she was approached by Campos sometime around September while she was at the library. She said he began asking her questions, and they exchanged phone numbers. She said he sent her a photograph of his genitals.
Police saved the picture for evidence and called Campos for a meeting.
While at the police station, Campos reportedly gave police a Social Security card with his name on it. The card was reportedly fake and returned to a woman from Bradenburg, Ky.
Campos allegedly admitted he paid for the card in California. Campos, who is from El Salvador, said he is not an American citizen.
He was arrested Wednesday and was transported to the Michael L. Becher Adult Corrections Complex in Jeffersonville, where is being held on $7,500 court-cash or surety bond and for immigration.
After initially saying he thought she was 16, Campos later said the girl told him she was 12 years old. He allegedly admitted sending the photograph.
Man allegedly found with pound of pot in vehicle
Early Sunday morning, a Kentucky man was arrested near Sellersburg after being found with about 1 pound of marijuana in his vehicle.
Jeffrey O. Key, 42, of Cave City, was arrested for dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Michael L. Becher Adult Correction Complex in Jeffersonville and is awaiting an initial hearing.
Trooper Randel Miller of the Indiana State Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Interstate 65 southbound at the 9.5 mile marker, according to an ISP news release. The trooper noticed criminal indicators and a probable-cause search revealed the marijuana.
Key was transported to jail without incident, an ISP press release says.
