Clark County Farmers Market opens Saturday

STAFF REPORTS
newsroom@newsandtribune.com

The Clark County Farmers Market will open Saturday in downtown Jeffersonville’s Preservation Park, 150 W. Market St.

The Jeffersonville market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays throughout May and will expand in June — from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.

The downtown Charlestown market will be open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays, beginning June 11.

“When you buy from the Clark County Farmers Market, you know you’re getting food grown and made in our local region,” said Market Manager and Jeffersonville Main Street Executive Director Jay Ellis in a press release. “Local food is fresher, tastes better and is more environmentally friendly than food shipped in from long distances.

“While they’re downtown for the farmers market, we encourage people to visit downtown Jeffersonville’s locally owned shops and restaurants.”

The May markets will feature a smaller number of vendors with spring crops and baked goods, and the market will increase the number of vendors as it enters into the summer months.

This Saturday’s farmers market will have leaf lettuce, onions, radishes, kale, mustard, asparagus, eggs, honey, sorghum, goat’s milk soap, baked goods, hummus, hydroponic tomatoes and more.

The Saturday markets also feature live music from local bands. This Saturday will feature bluegrass music by Mike Schroder and Steve Cooley from 9 to 11 a.m. The music schedule for the season can be found at the farmers market page at Jeffersonville Main Street’s Web site, www.JeffMainStreet.org.

For more information, call Ellis at 812-283-0301.
