Taylor Stone had three hits and Kenny Harrell added two, helping Henryville overcome a sluggish start to post an 18-5 victory over host New Washington.
The Mustangs scored a run in each of the first two innings to grab a 2-1 lead, but the Hornets exploded for five runs in the third and nine more in the fourth to cruise to their sixth win of the year.
The Hornets (6-4) tallied 11 hits in the contest, all singles.
“After a stagnant start, we were able to come to life,” said Henryville coach Jeff Schroeder. “We’re still looking, ten games into our season, for a vocal leader on this team. We’ve got good, talented kids but we need someone to give us an emotional kick start in these games.”
Henryville will host Lanesville on Thursday.
• Highlanders win fourth straight: Tyler Amos hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the third inning, helping the Highlanders to a 9-2 victory over Heritage Hills.
Trailing 2-1 in the third, Amos homered and the Highlanders plated a second run in the inning to go ahead, 3-1. The gap became larger in the fourth, when Floyd scored five times to seize control.
Dylan Bleemel gave up two runs and three hits as he improved to 2-1 on the mound for Floyd (8-5), which won its fourth straight.
“We got behind early and Tyler coming up with that home run to give us the lead was a big hit,” said Highlander skipper Casey LaDuke. “Dylan had a nice game. He gave up a home run to start the game, but settled in nicely.”
Floyd Central travels to Saint Xavier today.
• Braves club Portland Christian: Borden’s Dylan Martin had a triple and a pair of doubles to lead a 21-hit onslaught for the Braves in a 28-4 victory over Portland Christian.
Borden (8-4) totaled seven extra-base hits in the victory. Trevor Wagoner, Jeremy Blandford, Camm Thompson and Daniel Humphrey each added doubles in the attack.
“Dylan obviously had a nice ball game,” said Borden head coach Brian Agnew. “This was a game where we were able to use all our guys and have them get on-field experience.”
Borden will face New Washington on Wednesday.

Softball
• Charlestown scratches out home win: The Pirates plated the game-winning run in the bottom half of the fifth to defeat visiting Seymour, 5-4.
Ashton Napier, Lindsey Sprinkle, Brittany Bennison and Tyler Bradford each doubled in a 10-hit effort for Charlestown (4-4).
“We hit very well,” said Pirate assistant coach Wally Napier. “Its good to win a close game like this one.”
Amanda Miller picked up her fourth win of the season for the Pirates, who host Christian Academy of Indiana today.
• Embry no-hits Brownstown: Sophomore pitcher Amanda Embry struck out 14 hitters and didn’t surrender a hit, helping Henryville blank Brownstown on the road, 6-0.
Kelcey Pierce had two hits, including a home run, in the win for the Hornets (9-1).
“Overall I was very pleased with both our offense and our defense,” said Henryville coach Jenny Odle.
The Hornets will travel to New Wash on Wednesday.
• Jeff belts Beth Haven: Jeffersonville scored 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning as it clubbed visiting Beth Haven, 14-1.
Morgan Stirn and Rebecca Northam both doubled and, defensively, Stirn had a hand in Jeff’s first double play of the season along with second baseman Cydney Wilcoxson.
“Our defense did a better job of making plays today,” said Jeff coach Becky Shafer.
Megan Stirn was the winning pitcher for the Devils (7-3), improving to 4-1 on the season.
• Griffaw shuts out Orleans: Faith Griffaw gave up only two hits and New Albany opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs as it beat visiting Orleans, 5-0.
Griffaw fanned seven in the victory for New Albany (5-6). The Dogs travel to Providence on Thursday.
• New Wash stumbles at home: Lanesville did not surrender a hit as the Eagles defeated host New Washington, 10-2.
The Eagles scored eight times in the top of the fourth, but did surrender eight walks in the victory.
“It was very much another situation of us getting batters on base but not being able to drive anybody home,” said Mustang assistant coach Bill Broughton.
Katie Rager took the loss for New Washington (5-5). She had four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
New Wash will host Henryville on Wednesday.

Girls’ tennis
• Southwestern nips Jeffersonville: Dee Roehm scored a victory at No. 2 singles and Jeff’s No. 2 doubles tandem of Danielle Eckert and Landi Gaither both had victories, but Jeffersonville was beaten by Southwestern, 3-2.
Jeff faces Floyd Central today.

• Providence earns split: The Pioneer girls beat North Harrison by a narrow 65-61 score to take a triangular meet on Monday night. Rock Creek Christian finished with four points.
But the news wasn’t all good, as the Cougars nipped Providence 69-59 on the boys’ side, while Rock Creek scored 22 points.
The Providence girls’ squad earned nine top finishes in the victory, including two wins from Megan Eve in the 200 and 400-meter races. The Pioneers also captured all three relay events.
Providence also won two of the three relay events on the boys’ side, with Rock Creek’s victory in the 400 relay stopping the Pioneer sweep. Oliver Book won yet again for the Pioneers, taking the 800.
Eean Huffman won both the discus and shot put for the Pioneers.
• Dragons shine in Christian Academy Invite: The Silver Creek girls emerged victorious on Saturday, winning the team title at the Christian Academy of Louisiville Invitational.
The Silver Creek boys also put together a strong performance, racking up 97 points to finish second in the crowded 18-team field. Silver Creek was the only squad from Indiana to compete.
The Dragon girls posted a one-second victory in the 1600-meter relay with the team of Nicole Hess, Heather Stacey, Kelley Stewart and Chelsea Shrader. Hess also won the pole vault.
Molly Voyles had a strong day as well, finishing second in the high jump and winning the long jump.
Jack Eckert snagged two victories for the Dragons on the boys’ side, winning the 400-meter dash and the pole vault.
Silver Creek had two second-place finishes in the relay events, with the team of Eckert, Cole Rice, Brendan Chwalek and Derek Kunard coming up just short in the 1600 relay, while Chwalek and Rice were joined by Corey Alford and Aaron Beck during the 3200.
Chwalek was also second in the 1600 for the Dragons.
