Reader is fed up with recycling

I am pro recycling but am going to quit. When you go out of your way and keep the papers in a bag in the house to keep them dry for the driver and then watch him carry the recycle bin to the front of his truck and see how far down the road he can throw it.
Now I do not even know this driver so I do not know why he is mad at me as I am the only one in the neighborhood he does this to. Numerous calls to the street department are ignored. So if I done something to this guy I would like to know what it is and would like to know why I should go out of my way to recycle and be put thru this every Monday.

She doesn’t like Bush

At first I was taken aback at the sight of that smirking face on the front of Sunday’s Parade section. Then I realized it’s the perfect illustration for the “Best and Worst” article: he’s arguably the worst president in recent history, but the best is that he’ll be out of office before the new year ends.

Reader: Let’s be more polite

I have noticed especially lately that the more places I frequent to do daily activities, such as shopping , getting gas, eating out, just about anywhere someone has to offer you a service.
More and more people are extremely rude. How is it that someone can have a job and get away with treating you in a rude and unprofessioal way. I mean where are the managers of these places?
Why can you complain about someone’s attitude toward you and there are no consequences at all. I was at a restaurant the other day where the waitress practically threw our drinks on the table, wasn’t friendly and when we complained to the manager he didn’t even ask her name. He assures us he will take care of it and how sorry he is.
Jobs are not so easy to come by, or maybe they are today.
Is it a good idea to have a rude person working for you? Maybe our leaders and perhaps even we can take a look at ourselves and ask where can you get in life being rude and not giving someone a kind word once in awhile.
Life is hard enough day to day without some stranger being rude to you. Think about it as you go to your job today. Things would be a lot better if people would get the chip off their shoulder. Always treat people like you would like to be treated.

Reader wants Fetz’ apology

Several days ago I read in The (Jeffersonville) Evening News that the Jeffersonville City Council passed an ordinance giving a hefty salary increase to several high-ranking city officials. Councilman Ron Grooms voted against this ordinance. After the meeting was over, The Evening News reported that Councilman Fetz approached Mr. Grooms and asked him if he was going to donate his raise to charity.
I say to you Mr. Fetz: “What a classless act on your part to make this comment to Mr. Grooms, a person who is a class act, gentleman and a credit to Jeffersonville beyond my comprehension.” I was glad to read that Mr. Grooms did not stoop to your level in his response to you. You are an embarrassment to the City Council and the people of Jeffersonville. If you have any class at all you should make a public apology to Mr. Grooms. You made this comment in public and you should apologize in public.

Clarksville resident wants to hear voices

As a citizen of Clarksville, I attended a meeting of the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission on Jan. 3. Among the items on the agenda was a proposal by Richard Dickman to evaluate the benefits and liabilities of selling the Town Hall and properties which include the Clarksville Community Center and Police Station. A newly reelected town board member, Greg Isgrigg, supported the proposal.
We have a very nice Town Hall in a very nice location within our community, surrounded by a lot of lovely green space with room for a lovely new fire station that is needed. How can we improve on that?
My question to you, the citizens of Clarksville is: “Do you want the officials of the town to pursue this course to sell the present location (of the Community Center and Police Station) and look for a new location such as the old Clarksville Drive-in or an Eastern Boulevard location?”
Regardless of your opinion, please make it known to one of the town board members either by phone or preferably in writing. Clarksville Town Board members are: Paul Kraft, Ray Richert, Don Tetley, David Fisher, Greg Isgrigg and Vicki Appleby.
Thank you and please do something. Make your opinion and voice heard.
Clarksville Town Council can be reached by calling (812) 283-1504 or by writing Town Council at 2000 Broadway, Suite 208, Clarksville, IN 47129.

Farr responds to Young’s letter

This letter addresses Mr Jim M Young's Jan. 1 letter titled, “Young on ‘Common Sense.’”
Thank you for educating us on Thomas Paine. Now, for the “rest of the story.” The following is taken from the book, “Fighting Words,” by Robin Morgan.
“Paine was a freethinker, vilified and persecuted as an atheist, but he actually termed himself a Deist. In fact, he attacked the excesses of the French Revolution-including opposing atheism-and was imprisoned for this opposition ... Yet he relentlessly opposed organized churches, reserving particularly vituperative words for Christianity.” (page 02)
Following are some samples from his great work, “The Age of Reason,” 1793 as found on page 03 of the above mentioned book.
“I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my church.
The creator of man is the creator of science, and it is through that medium that man can see God.
I feel no need for any other faith than my faith in human beings.
Of all the systems of religions that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity.”
