Sniper victim’s brother offers thoughts

I would like to thank the paper for publishing the submission written by Jerry Jacobi. He went out of his way to be with my family at the Jackson County courthouse. We have talked a lot lately about failures in the justice system. The main problem as I see it from our experience, prosecutors and judges who don’t listen to victims opinions when it comes to plea-bargains. Or even take their opinions into consideration.

They know victims have no rights in the Indiana court system, so sometimes they choose to do things the easy way, and that needs to be changed. Victims should have a voice and it should be heard before plea-bargains or sentencing takes place.

We lost my twin brother Jerry to a sniper shooting July 23, 2006. We had always been much more than brothers we were always best friends, To make something good come from something so terrible would make it special to me and my family, and the countless victims to come ,I truly hope something can be changed.

We need judges with experience, knowledge and backbone to do the job. Jerry Jacobi in Clark County. Stanley Robison in Floyd County. Both will be on the ballot in May, they will be the kind of Superior Court Judges we need.

Thank you for your time.

— Terry Ross, Jeffersonville
