Voter thinks candidate’s photo says a lot

I have reviewed a copy of information originating from Dan Moore who is currently seeking a seat on the District Two bench as a new judge hopeful.

I am at a loss as to why the election flier’s photo is obviously dated/outdated. With the description highlighted in Mr. Moore’s resumé it would appear to someone as if Mr. Moore were in his 30’s. This would mean he married at age 5 and he would have received his law degree at age 15. I am confident that Mr. Moore could have provided a current photo thereby reflecting an increased level of accuracy on his application to the citizens who will be voting during the next election. This would be totally consistent with completeness, fairness and accuracy expected of all judicial candidates as well as those currently serving on the bench.

Any individual running for any judicial position should be required to present a totally accurate representation of themselves for consideration. This includes an individual possessing high standards, reputation and most importantly accuracy for the community. A judge will be the deciding factor involving decision-making that will affect the future of many lives during the elected term.

It is a fact that most companies discovering this type of deception to be legal grounds for immediate termination or consideration denial. Louisville’s largest employer, UPS, currently employs policy involving misrepresentation or falsifying of applications to result in dismissal. Additionally, if this activity is uncovered during the hiring phase, all would end there.

With Mr. Moore’s legal background, education, experience and financial capability, it leads me to wonder why he chose to circulate an inaccurate photo in lieu of a current one. Which begs the question, what else about him is deceptive?

Resident not happy with Jacobi’s record

I want to address the past judgeship of Jerry Jacobi, who is asking Clark County citizens to once more place him in a position of responsibility over our youth for corrections.

I do not think that is a good idea. I hope it does not happen.

It seems no matter the ethnic culture, he appears to have a distaste for those less fortunate than others. His judgments do not seem to be fair among the youth of the have-nots.

If a person is a minority, regardless of color, he or she are found guilty. The skin color comes into play when the sentence is given. I believe there is a double standard in his court room for African Americans.

Can/will you check his records on sentencing for public knowledge?

As an African-American citizen of Jeffersonville, who loves her hometown, who has much respect for authority when good judgment is shown towards young people. I ask that all of Clark County think deep and hard about the youth. He may have started a program for the youth. Go there, find out what goes on. Please say no to Jerry Jacobi.

Reader disagrees with DeKay column

Peggy DeKay’s comments left me confused. She writes that her grandmother advised her “don’t listen to what a man says, but watch what he does", then dismisses the front-running Presidential candidate based on remarks made years ago — not by the candidate, but by his pastor! (Does she recall the hateful remarks by Revs. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson after 9/11? or Rev. Hagee’s more recent villification of Catholics?)

Matching the walk with the talk isn’t hard. The candidates’ voting records are easily accessible via the Internet. Despite Sen. McCain’s military service and his courage as a POW, he has missed a majority of votes on Iraq. He did not vote on the Senate bill to implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, “Keeping America Secure Act,” even though he was in the Senate that day and voted on 15 other bills. He has voted consistently against funding for the Veterans Administration, and has not supported the new GI Bill, which provides educational benefits for returning vets. So much for his “straight talk.”

McCain’s temper and angry outbursts during his 27 years in Congress are well-documented. Truthfully, it cannot be said that he “knows how to keep a cool head.” He does not know the difference between the Sunnis, the Shi’ites, the various militia groups, and Al-Qaeda, but lumps them all together. I wouldn’t want want his finger on the “button of world obliteration.” He has told us, “There will be other wars,” and, “maybe we’ll be there (in Iraq) for 100 years.” He will continue the Bush tax cuts while borrowing from China to finance an Iraq occupation that currently costs American taxpayers $12 billion a month.

If Ms. DeKay supports McCain and his perpetual war, I hope she is willing to offer her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to risk life and limb, while bankrupting the country, in the interest of “victory” (whatever that means). That’s not my vision for the future. I want the United States to move forward, not backward; to “walk the talk” of the great promise of our Constitution. I will vote for Barack Obama.
