Reader: Hill took the easy way out

Once again, Congressman Baron Hill stood in the shadows and took the easy way out on health care reform.

Mr. Hill stood in front of a mainly pro-health care group of federal workers at a Monday night forum at Indiana University Southeast. Mr. Hill, what did you expect to hear from a group that had nothing to fear or lose in the health care debate?

Mr. Hill had two New Albany Police Department officers waiting behind the curtains in case one of the mostly friendly, invitation-only group would become violent. Big chance of that happening before such a friendly group.

This was a complete waste of taxpayer money and took away from the officers’ jobs of protecting the residents of New Albany. Mr. Hill, maybe what you should fear is losing your congressional seat in the 2010 election.

Calling the people who are voicing there right to be heard “violent” will not gain you many friends, Mr. Hill. This meeting was nothing more then a photo-op for you, Mr. Hill. Nothing of substance could have come from this meeting and nothing did.

Mr. Hill, maybe if you would open your eyes and ears you would be a little more understanding of what is concerning so many people.

If you would take time out of from your busy schedule you would see that these so-called “violent people” are mostly middle-age and older people: moms, dads and grandparents. They are your neighbors, they are everyday good Hoosiers and people from all over the United States of America.

You, and both houses of our government, need to slow down and get this right.
