Reader: Support township assessors
Mitch Daniels is a desperate man. While you see office workers in a number of TV spots praising his efforts with helping children, Gov. Daniels has got the “itch” to abolish some major offices on a local level.
One of the offices he’s thinking of micro-managing from high atop his ivory tower in Indianapolis is that of the township assessor. Daniels’ desperation to micro-manage the assessor’s office is the first step in instituting the “Pied Piper Syndrome.” He pipes while you pay.
Mitch Daniels is a desperate man. He thinks that he knows what’s best for Indiana. Slick commercials bombard the media with the “greatness” of we gotta do more with less.
If Daniels gets another term, chances are you’ll see the well-to-do pay zero in property taxes while raising the sales tax to a possible eight percent all while they continue to profit from the sale of license plates.
Mitch thinks he can rule from his roost in Indy with his careless travesty of micro-management. Support Vicki Conlin by sending a resounding “no” to Mitch and his micro-managers.
Don’t let micro-management by Mitch Daniels abolish the office of township assessor. Vote a “no” to Daniels and his micro-management and a “no” to his bill to streamline the township assessors’ office. Give “micro-Mitch” a message that the citizens of Clark County can manage the affairs of the township assessor without his expertise.
Support Vicki Conlin. She deserves your support and your vote.

She questions gas prices
I’m writing in regards to the gas prices surrounding our area and the state. This is in my opinion and mine alone.
While the price for oil per barrel is considerably down, why is the gas so high in our area and surrounding areas? Why is Gov. Mitch Daniels not stepping in to help ease the prices, such as the gas tax he removed? Is our governor asleep at the wheel?
With devastation from the remains of Hurricane Ike pounding our area and surrounding areas, the gas prices soared. Now, why is that?
I call it “gas-gouging” and our government lets it happen.
As November approaches many voters will be handing out “pink slips” at the voting places and to that I say, “Get it done, voters!”
Also, I would like to thank Duke Energy and the many, many more who worked rapidly to restore power so quickly. Well done!

Reader is happy at Clark Arms
I am responding to a letter about Clark Arms that was in your Sept. 17 issue. I don’t know about the police or city hall. I have lived at Clark Arms for 17 years. Some residents may break the rules, but I feel it’s my home no matter what. No place is perfect! Some changes are needed, but I have always been treated fairly by JHA (Jeffersonville Housing Authority) workers.
I have seen our live-in manager deal with very unruly people, screaming and throwing things at her. She kept her cool and managed well! Could the people who complained do this? Would they like getting up at all hours to mop a flooded laundry room or hallway? Would they really listen to our feelings when you are down?
I could go on and on, but a lot of residents know what I’m talking about. If people, don’t like Clark Arms — move!
Thank you JHA and my friends at Clark Arms!
