LETTERS: Dec. 26, 2007

Reader wants local news on radio

First I want to thank the former WAVG-1450 radio station owners and employees for their excellent coverage of local sporting events and local issues in the past. In addition, the station carried all of Indiana University`s games. You always felt like you were right there and part of the action, especially in local basketball and football games. You were the best.

Now I want to remind you of the first press release we were given from the new station owners of WAVG, exactly one day before Jeffersonville and Providence played in the final game of the football sectional and before the local election. The new owners stated that WAVG had been purchased by a new group and beginning immediately and for the next three weeks, the new owners would be busy with other tasks and unable to carry any sporting or other local events. The perception was that it was just a delay and local sporting games and events would resume. Real bad timing but what can you do.

Needless to say, it is well past three weeks and we have heard nothing. This letter may prompt a response because from a new owner point of view, you don’t want to “tarnish your new image.” In layman terms, you don’t want to lose your listeners.

Again, I want to thank the former owners for a fantastic job and your personal touch over the past years. I’m going to miss those Friday night games. The new owners? They show no respect for the listeners of Southern Indiana. Your actions speak louder than words and shows no class that deserves no listeners.

It’s time for a woman leader

I graduated from high school in 1945. The Great Depression was over, the war was won and the men came home from war. We started our life. America was wonderful “then.”

Then we had Korea, Vietnam, Watergate, Nixon resigned, Iran-Contra, and then finally, George W. Bush — the worst president in our history.

The election was a mess. “They” send hecklers, thugs into Florida and stopped a count. Then Bush took it to the “Supreme Court” where Bush Sr. had appointed some men. So they gave the election to his son. America? He knew they were there, so our Supreme Court was not “supreme” anymore.

He said, I’m a uniter not a divider and proceeded to pull the country into half. The cronies he appointed for his cabinet was probably the worse in history. Rumsfeld with his silly grin and jokes talking about War, Mitch McConnell’s wife, head of mines, Rice who hasn’t a clue what to do. He had cronies all around him begging for war in the Middle East. Then he had George Tenet and Colin Powell lying for him ruining one great man, Powell.

Then Cheney gave energy companies America.

And so with a lie we went to war. We invaded a country, killed thousands of people and tortured others. Are you sure Bush is a born again Christian?

Now Bush, Cheney, and their cronies want Iran. The words are the same to go to war.

How stupid are we?

A man I talked to recently said, “America needs a woman. It’s time for a woman. Women hate war. They don’t want to see their children blown to bits in some far way country.”
