Body found in Ohio River near Leavenworth

Police: Identity of person unknown

newsroom@newsandtribune.com

Police are hoping to identify a body found near the boat ramp in Leavenworth on Thursday afternoon following an autopsy today, according to WLKY-TV in Louisville, a newsgathering partner of The Evening News.

A fisherman found the body, which Indiana conservation officers believe could have been in the river for months.

The body was so badly decomposed that officials cannot tell whether it’s a man or woman, black or white, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Max Spainhour.

He said the body was that of a tall person, who was wearing boots and jewelry.

Authorities hope to determine the cause of death after the autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to call 812-837-9536.
