Clinton will visit New Albany's Southside Inn Saturday

Presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton will visit New Albany on Saturday, according to campaign officials.

Late Wednesday night, the Clinton Press Office in Virginia announced through a news release that Clinton — who is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for the presidency — will be in New Albany on Saturday for a “Hoosiers on the Economy” roundtable talk. A time and location was not announced. The event begins at 2 p.m. and will be at the Southside Inn Restaurant, 114 E Main St.

Clinton had hoped to visit New Albany last Thursday, but her busy schedule postponed that plan, said Jonathan Swain, communications director for the Clinton Press Office last week. She will campaign in Muncie, South Bend, Hammond, and Fort Wayne on Friday, and stop by Indianapolis on Saturday morning. Then, she is scheduled to arrive in New Albany.

Swain said in an interview earlier this week there are no confirmed plans for Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, to visit New Albany but that it remains a possibility. Bill Clinton traveled to several Indiana cities last week, including Lawrenceburg, Richmond and Fort Wayne.

The Clintons’ adult daughter, Chelsea, and actor Sean Astin of “Lord of the Rings” fame also have joined the campaign trail. They have visited colleges in Indiana this week, including Ball State University, Indiana University in Bloomington and University of Notre Dame. Swain said Chelsea Clinton and Astin’s tour would not include New Albany or Louisville colleges, but that she will probably return to Indiana at a later date.

Campaign officials for other presidential hopefuls, including Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain, have said visits to New Albany are not ruled out, but there are no definite stops scheduled.
