Granger wins Democratic Primary for new Floyd court

— Democrat Maria Granger secured her candidacy Tuesday against Republican Richard Fox in November’s election for Floyd County Superior Court No. 3 judge.
Granger, 39, faced off against fellow attorneys Richard “Rich” Bolin, 63, and Stan Robison, 53. She received 8,581 votes, or 51.11 percent. Her closest challenger, Robison, received 6,140 votes, or 36.57 percent. Bolin took 2,069 votes, or 12.32 percent.
Granger and Fox are running for the court that will open in 2009, to help ease the backlog of criminal and civil cases in Floyd County. Granger, other Democratic candidates and supporters gathered Tuesday at Knights of Columbus in New Albany.
“I am absolutely overwhelmed,” Granger said. “I didn’t do much predicting, I just kept working hard until the end.”
Granger’s campaign centered around the fact that she serves as a referee in Scott County Court, has been a judge pro tem and an Indiana Supreme Court hearing officer. She also teaches business law at Indiana University Southeast.
“I had a lot of people who pledged their support, but the support I got from other voters is just overwhelming,” Granger said. “I reached out myself to as many people as I could. I made myself accessible and really tried to talk to as many people as possible.”
For Granger, the next step is preparing for the November election.
“I will take a breather, but that is about all I get,” she said.
Bolin could not be reached for comment, and Robison did not return a call seeking comment as of publication deadline.
