Clark County Clerk Barbara Haas said that in Precinct 37 some voters received incorrect ballots for the primary election. However, she does not believe the mistake changed the final results.
Haas said that district is split, where about half the residents get to vote for Clarksville Community Schools board and the other half vote for Greater Clark County Schools board. However, this year, only GCCS seats were up for grabs.
Haas said a voter pointed out that he was given the wrong ballot early Tuesday morning and the person working the polling location said she did not realize she had given the wrong one and wasn’t sure how many she had given out.
“That means that some people may have voted in the school board race when they were not entitled to and others, who were entitled to, couldn’t,” Haas said.
As soon as the totals came in and showed one of the races, District 6, had only 95 votes separating the winner, Robbie Valentine, from second place, Jerry White, Haas said she decided to take a closer look at that individual precinct’s results.
“The difference between the two top people in that race was wider than what we felt could have voted that early, unless you think every single person was given the wrong ballot,” Haas said.
She said she believed about 28 votes separated the two candidates in that precinct.
She said the mistake was corrected as soon as they were notified that morning.
Haas said no one has filed a formal complaint on the issue.
