Georgetown man bonded out in molesting case

A 61-year-old Georgetown man accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl at his church was released on a $25,000 cash-only bond in the case, according to Floyd County Circuit Court records.

James A. Quick, of Old Georgetown Road, had an initial hearing Monday on a class C felony child-molesting charge. He was released that day on bond, but a bond-reduction hearing was set for today.

Quick is accused of fondling a 9-year-old female member of Christ United Methodist Church in Georgetown on a Sunday in March, according to a probable-cause affidavit. Quick allegedly asked the girl and her 6-year-old brother if they would come ring the church bell with him, records say.

Both children told authorities they had done this with Quick before without anything happening, so they went with him this time. As the girl pulled the bell’s rope, he allegedly fondled her, records say. He also reached down her pants another time later that day, according to the girl’s statement.

Quick is barred by court order from having any dealings with the church or the alleged victim while out on bond. He could be incarcerated for two to eight years and fined up to $10,000 if convicted. A trial date has not been set.



Man accused of bodily-waste battery

A 44-year-old New Albany man is facing up to eight years imprisonment on strangulation and battery-by-body-waste charges, according to Floyd County Superior Court records.

Michael Edward Calloway, of Budd Road, is charged with class D felony strangulation and two class A misdemeanors — battery by bodily waste and battery resulting in bodily injury. He could also be fined up to $20,000, if convicted on all charges.

The alleged incident happened Saturday when Calloway accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and addressed her using racial slurs, according to a probable-cause affidavit. Calloway allegedly hit her in the head and began choking her, records say.

The woman bit his arm in self-defense and landed on the ground, after which Calloway allegedly urinated on her, according to the police report.

Calloway is being held in Floyd County Jail on a $15,000 court-cash bond. It would take about $1,500 cash to secure his release until trial, for which a date has not been set. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.
