Historic windows topic of Tuesday preservation workshop in New Albany

Preservation Month continues in Floyd County with a workshop on historic window renovation scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

The demonstration will be held in the garage of Matt and Jessica Bergman, located at 135 E. Market St., which is directly behind the Market Street Fish House.

Jack P. Patchin, owner of Ol’ House Experts, will talk about his experiences restoring wood windows in structures that date back to the 1700s. According to a news release, he served nine years on the maintenance crew of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wisconsin estate, the Taliesin.

Tuesday’s event will focus on how restored historic wood windows are superior to replacement windows. There will be a demonstration of the use of basic tools needed to maintain windows.

Participants that dine downtown before the event will have their dinner receipt entered in a drawing for a prize at the workshop. The event is free and open to the public, but is limited to 35 people with reservations required.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission, Develop New Albany and Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana.
