Evening News staffers win 14 AP awards

The Evening News and its staff won 14 awards — including seven first place nods — in its division during the annual Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors awards program Saturday in Indianapolis.
First-place awards went to the newspaper’s shared Web site with The Tribune of New Albany, as well as to: Region Editor Chris Morris for best feature writing; Presentation Editor Amy Huffman-Branham for both front-page design and best use of graphics; Photographer C.E. Branham for both best sports photo and best photo package; Sportswriter Kevin Harris for deadline sports reporting; and Sports Editor Mike Hutsell for nondeadline sports reporting.
Second-place nods went to: Staff Writer David A. Mann for feature writing and Morris for nondeadline news reporting.
Third-place honors went to: Page Designer Elizabeth Goodman for best use of graphics; Huffman-Branham for headline writing; and Branham for both best feature photo and news photo.
“These awards are important because they are reviewed and judged by our peers in Indiana,” said Shea Van Hoy,
managing editor of The Evening News and The Tribune.
In addition to the above awards, staffers won for their work on The Tribune, as follows:
• Page-design: Second place — Amy Huffman-Branham/staff
• Headline writing: First place — Managing Editor Shea Van Hoy; Third place — Huffman-Branham
• Feature photo: Second place — Photographer Kevin McGloshen
• News photo: First place — McGloshen
• Sports photo: Second and third place — McGloshen
• Photo package: Second place — McGloshen
