Greater Clark changing things up for new school year

By TARA HETTINGER

The Wednesday late-start schedule may be out this fall, but changing up the start and end times for students is definitely a go for Greater Clark County Schools.

The times for the various schools were changed to allow room for professional development time with teachers among other things, such as planning time, according to Erin Bojorquez, public relations specialist. Teachers will either come early or stay later for that time. Previously, they used the extra time from the Wednesday late-start schedule for professional development.

This new schedule also comes at a time when the state eliminated the rule allowing schools to count half days as full student days. Before, schools could have students go home early and have teachers stay for professional development. However, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett changed that rule earlier this year.

Below are the start and end times for the various schools:

JEFFERSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

• 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

CHARLESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

• 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

PARKVIEW AND RIVER VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOLS

• 8:15 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

CHARLESTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL, NEW WASHINGTON MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY

• 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JONATHAN JENNINGS AND PLEASANT RIDGE ELEMENTARIES

• 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

BRIDGEPOINT, MAPLE, NORTHHAVEN, PARKWOOD, RIVERSIDE, SPRING HILL, THOMAS JEFFERSON, UTICA AND WILSON ELEMENTARIES

• 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
