Man faces arson charge in Clarksville car fire

By MATT THACKER

A man sent to the hospital earlier this month with severe burns has been charged with class D felony arson.

Roger W. Saylor Jr., 52, was arrested Friday and sent to the Michael L. Becher Adult Corrections Complex to await his initial hearing.

On June 5 at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Clarksville Police Department responded to a call that a vehicle had been set on fire in the rear parking lot of America’s Best Inn and Suites, at 342 Eastern Blvd.

A hotel security took Saylor inside the hotel, according to a police report. It’s believed he burned the car of a man named Andrew Saylor, although the relationship between the two is not known.

Roger Saylor suffered “extensive burns” to his right arm and left hand. He was taken to the Jewish Hospital Burn Center in Louisville.

Two witnesses said Saylor took out a milk jug with what appeared to be gasoline and then poured it all over a grey Dodge Intrepid and lit it on fire, court records state. Charges were filed against him last week.

It is not known what caused the suspect to allegedly start the fire.

Saylor faces six months to three years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Clarksville man charged with sexual misconduct

A 38-year-old Clarksville man has been charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, a class C felony.

William Mudd, of Princeton Drive, admitted to the allegations in an interview with detectives, according to a police report. The claims were made by a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, the report states.

According to police, the 14-year-old said he kissed her inappropriately about two years ago. The 17-year-old said he touched her inappropriately about a month ago.

He faces two to eight years in prison for each count if convicted.

He was arrested Friday, but official charges had not been filed with the court as of Monday morning.
