Jeffersonville Police Department begins training on new computer software

Chief Deeringer said new system ‘more efficient’

The Jeffersonville Police Department began to transition to a new computer system last week and employees received training on the new software.

“It’s going to make everything much more efficient,” said Jeffersonville Police Department Chief Tim Deeringer. “We’re going to be able to respond to calls quicker.”

The new software will help in loading pictures of suspects and will change the way evidence is stored, Deeringer said. The new software will make it easier to file and retrieve reports.

The next step for the police department will be installing in-car laptop computers. Those have been approved by the city council. Once the computers are installed in cars, officers will be able to file reports and run license checks from their vehicles.

The city of Jeffersonville will pay $1.4 million for the upgrades and new computers. Biannual payments will be made for the next five years.

The money will come from the annexation fund. It could later be replaced with Economic Development Income Tax money.
