Storm leaves residents in the dark

Thousands left without power Tuesday, trees down

As soon as the storm came late Tuesday afternoon, it passed, leaving thousands in the dark in Clark and Floyd counties.

According to Duke Energy’s Web site, 3,763 customers in Floyd County were without power at 5:40 p.m. In Clark County, a total of 917 customers were without power.

As of 9:25 p.m., 499 were still without power in Floyd County and 694 were without power in Clark County.

A Floyd County Sheriff’s Department dispatcher said she had gotten calls of a tree down on Paoli Pike — which was cleared up quickly — and a tree on a power line off Blackiston Mill Road. She said the department had not received any calls of any serious damages resulting from the storm.

There were reports of trees down in the Crestwood and Norwood drives area of New Albany, according to newsgathering partner WLKY-TV in Louisville. Those roads sit off Klerner Lane between Charlestown and Mt. Tabor roads.

Just down Blackiston Mill Road in Clark County, damage was reported in the Altawood Drive neighborhood, with trees down and a shed toppled, residents said.

A Jeffersonville Fire Department dispatcher said she had gotten many calls of trees and limbs down on the roads or on power lines. She said it was widespread throughout the area.
