Two men arrested for theft, burglary in Floyd County

Detective says arrests help solve five cases

Floyd County police have arrested two men in connection with five alleged burglaries in Clark and Floyd counties.

Jeremiah L. Winters, 31, of Sellersburg, and Jack M. Roydes II, 23, of Clarksville, were charged with burglary and theft and are being held in the Floyd County Jail.

On Monday, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a burglary at the Silver Creek Sand and Gravel Co. at 4747 Ind. 111. Numerous tools, boat motors, brass and equipment were stolen from the business, according to a press release.

During the investigation, officers went to ISA Recycling Center at 1617 Ind. 111 to see if any of the brass had been sold. While at the center, Winters and Roydes drove in with stolen brass and copper welding leads from the burglary, the release states.

Investigators were led to two residences — one along Fairview Avenue in Jeffersonville and one along Lincoln Avenue in Sellersburg. Police found stolen property in both residences, according to the press release.

The arrest of the two suspects helped police in Floyd and Clark counties solve five cases from June and July of this year, said Detective Jeff Topping of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to the case in New Albany on Monday, the arrests helped the Clark County police solve cases at Agrock Quarry, T.J. Adkins Quarry and the Courier-Journal, while Jeffersonville police have solved a case at Hanson Quarry. Clark County and Jeffersonville police will be filing additional charges against the two suspects.
