The Indiana State Police has identified the type of vehicle that fled the scene of an accident that killed Edwin E. Zweydorff Jr., 63, of Henryville last weekend.
Based on evidence left at the scene, troopers determined the vehicle was a white 1999 through 2003 Chevrolet S-10 Extreme Pickup.
The accident took place shortly before 4:07 a.m. Saturday, according to an ISP press release.
The Extreme model of the Chevrolet S-10 pickups contains extra spoilers, moldings, splash guards and a special Extreme emblem, but police note that regular Chevrolet S-10 pickups and GMC Sonoma style pickups could have this package added to it.
Zweydorff was riding a 2003 Honda Shadow motorcycle southbound on Interstate 65 near the 11.5 mile marker in Clark County when the pickup truck ran him over. Investigators believe the truck will probably contain heavy damage to the right front passenger side of the vehicle.
Based on damage to the motorcycle and trauma to the body, investigators think the driver of the truck knew he or she had been involved in an accident and may have even stopped after the crash.
His family is asking for the driver or anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
“It broke our hearts for this to happen, but what makes it worse is wondering why this person didn’t have enough humanness to stop and try to help,” his sister, Cindy Wessels, said.
Zweydorff was a press helper at VG Reed Printing in Louisville and was driving to work when the accident occurred, Wessels said. He also had a photography studio, called Eddie Z. Photography, in his home.
Investigators would like to talk to anyone who passed through the area between the 11 and 12 mile markers on I-65 South between 3:30 and 4:07 a.m. and saw a crash or has seen a truck with damage matching that description.
