Floyd County residents can pre-pay property taxes

STAFF REPORTS
newsroom@newsandtribune.com

No due date has been set for Floyd County property tax bills. The state has not yet established the tax rate for the county, which has held up the mailing of bills.

Treasurer Darlene McCoy said instead of two installments — a spring and fall — taxes will likely have to be paid this year in one lump sum.

To avoid one large payment around the holidays, McCoy said property owners can make advance payments on their taxes which will be credited to their accounts. Payments can be made at the treasurer’s office, room 113, on the first floor of the City-County Building.

Taxes can be paid by credit card this year. There are three options and each option does have an additional fee to the taxpayer making the payment.

Option one is to pay the treasurer’s office with a credit or debit card with an additional 3-percent fee. Option two is to pay online at wwwpaygovllc.com. There is a 3.95-percent fee for using the Internet. Option 3 is to use a credit or debit card by calling PayGOV at 1-866-480-8552 and a live operator will assist you. There is an additional 4.95-percent fee for call-in payments.

Advance payments can also be paid by check or cash. The treasurer’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and for more information call 812-948-5477.
