A New Albany man accused of burglarizing at least 13 homes in Floyd and Clark counties was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in prison and seven years probation.

Robert L. Snyder, 29, pleaded guilty to class B felony burglary and was sentenced by Floyd County Circuit Court Judge J. Terrence Cody in accordance with a plea agreement.

Snyder and 21-year-old Dustin L. Brewer were chased by police on Sept. 12, 2008, after a Pekin woman reportedly caught them in the act of burglarizing her home on Trainer Lane. Carol King was in her backyard when she noticed someone moving around inside her home. She saw a vehicle in her driveway, so she picked up a garden hoe and beat his window. She said she wanted to make it easier for police to identify the vehicle.

Police caught up with the vehicle and pursued it south on Ind. 335 and onto Martinsburg-Borden Road before it crashed on Trinity Lane, and the suspects reportedly fled on foot.

Snyder was arrested Oct. 22 and has been in jail since then. He will receive credit for time served.

Brewer was arrested Sept. 26. He is charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft. A jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 14. He faces 13 to 46 years in prison if convicted.

Man accused of having sex with pregnant teen sentenced

A 31-year-old New Albany man pleaded guilty to class B felony sexual misconduct and was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison and five years probation.

A woman allegedly walked in the room while Dameon R. Giles, 31, was having sex with her 14-year-old daughter in August 2008.

The alleged victim told police she has had sex with Giles more than 10 times at his residence since March, according to court records.

A sexual assault examination determined the girl was 12-weeks pregnant, court records state.

Cody sentenced Giles in accordance with a plea agreement filed in Circuit Court.

Man receives six-year sentence in violent burglary

A New Albany man was sentenced on Thursday to four years in prison and two years probation for breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house and assaulting her.

Steven J. Wright, then 29, pleaded guilty to class C felony burglary resulting in bodily injury in Circuit Court.

In December of 2007, Wright reportedly kicked open the door to the woman’s home and then pinned her the ground while holding a five-way tool to her throat.

According to court records, the ex-girlfriend told police that Wright punched her in the head and slammed her into a glass table. He also stole several DVDs, prescription medication and an X-box game.

Wright has credit for serving nearly one year in jail already.

Man sentenced in theft at Georgetown store

A Georgetown man charged with robbing a Georgetown Family Dollar store in December of 2007 was sentenced Thursday in Circuit Court to one year in prison and two years probation for class D felony theft.

Robert A. Minton, 23 at the time, will be released from jail next week due to credit for time served.

He and Bryan K. Elmore, then 22, reportedly orchestrated a plan to rob the store.

Elmore was working at the store, located in the 7600 block of Ind. 64, when he called 911 to report a robbery, according to police. Phone records indicated Elmore had called Minton just before the robbery.

A search of Minton’s home turned up $6,670 of cash, a Halloween mask, a blue money bag labeled “Family Dollar,” three pink trays, 20 checks totaling approximately $620 and numerous credit-card receipts, according to court records.

Court records show Elmore’s case is pending.
