Floyd County woman convicted in OWI accident

A 40-year-old woman was found guilty Wednesday of four counts related to an accident she caused while impaired.

Susan A. Hood, of New Albany, was involved in a two-vehicle accident near Palmer Court in January. No one was injured.

A jury convicted Hood of operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangering a person, a class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with a schedule I controlled substance or its metabolite in the body, a class C misdemeanor; driving with a suspended license, a class A misdemeanor; and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a class D felony.

The state dropped a class C misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle with a schedule II controlled substance or its metabolite after Hood’s attorney, Deborah Haney, proved she had a valid prescription at the time of the accident.

Deputy Prosecutor Matt Ely handled the case.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 17 in the Floyd County Court. She faces a maximum of five years and two months in prison if each count is judged to run consecutively.
