Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will outline his plan for property tax relief for Hoosiers on Tuesday. He will describe his plan during remarks that will be offered for live broadcast at 6 p.m.
According to a press release, Daniels' plan will offer "fair, far-reaching and final property tax relief" for Hoosier homeowners. He will seek an amendment to Indiana’s Constitution to make changes permanent.
The governor has taken a number of steps in the past several months to help property taxpayers and local governments, including extending the deadline for counties to provide dollar for dollar property tax relief by adopting a local option income tax, allowing homeowners to pay property taxes in installments, ordering the Department of Local Government Finance to oversee property tax reassessments in counties as needed, and creating the Blue Ribbon Commission on Local Government Reform to look at and make recommendations about how to reform and restructure local government.
