The 2009 Jewish Festival of the Book will feature two of Louisville’s own Jewish authors, Fred Gross (Nov. 11) and Matthew Biberman (Nov. 15). Gross, author of “One Step Ahead of Hitler: A Jewish Child’s Journey Through France,” will speak on his book, which tells the story of a young boy coming to know his own story as a grown man. Biberman, a University of Louisville professor and author of “Big Sid’s Vincati: The Story of a Father, a Son, and the Motorcycle of a Lifetime,” chronicles a promise he made with his father to build a legendary Vincati together after his father’s heart attack. Both events are free. Renowned authors Benyamin Cohen (Nov. 4), Martin Fletcher (Nov. 16), and Pam Jenoff (Nov. 19) will speak. Tickets are $8 for these three authors. Tina Wasserman (Nov. 22) will hold a demonstration and sampling of recipes from her cookbook, “Entrée to Judaism” at a private home. Tickets are $20 and advanced reservations are required. “Meet and Greet” Bob Lujano

INFO: Paralympic Bob Lujano, who is in the Academy Award-nominated documentary “Murderball,” which chronicles the American team’s quest for gold at the 2004 Paralympics Games in Athens, where they took home the bronze, will meet with the public and members of Louisville Metro Parks’ Adapted Leisure Activities program. Lujano is currently a recreation specialist at the Lakeshore Foundation, an U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site. In 11 years, he has helped win five U.S. Quad Rugby National Championships, with the Lakeshore Demolition out of Birmingham, Ala. He also won two medals playing rugby for the U.S. Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby National Team. He earned a silver medal at the 2002 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, as well as taking the bronze in Athens in 2004. Pizza and soft drinks will be served. Lujano will also give the keynote address at the Kentucky Park and Recreation’s annual conference and trade show at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Hyatt Recency Hotel in Louisville.
