Alumni games set for men, women

The Henryville High School Alumni Game will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 28. 

Games will be scheduled for men and women who graduated from Henryville High School.

The annual alumni game is a fundraiser for the Dollars for Scholars Committee, which raises money to provide local students with scholarships.

YMCA offers child care on Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving is a frenzy for parents rushing to snatch holiday bargains on one of the the busiest shopping days of the year.

So, the YMCA Clark County Branch is offering child care with supervised activities for ages 5 to 11, between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 27, at the Y, 4812 Hamburg Pike, Jeffersonville.

Children will enjoy an inflatable activity, big-screen early-morning movie, craft project, turkey tag, swimming and many other age-appropriate activities.

Cost is $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional child from the same family. YMCA members and those registered in the Y’s school-age childcare program will pay $5 less per child. Fee includes breakfast, activities, and swimming, and all children should bring a sack lunch.

JHS presents ‘A Christmas Story’

Jeffersonville High School Theatre will present Jean Shepherd’s “A Christmas Story,” along with 40s-style refreshments, entertainment, and silent auction at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-5, and 2 p.m. Dec. 6, at the school.

Travel back to the 1940s when the only thing Ralphie wanted to see underneath the Christmas tree was that fantastic Red Ryder BB gun — sure to “put an eye out.” All of the characters and antics from the beloved motion picture will appear on the stage, along with authentic period costuming and an expansive set.

As an added holiday bonus, the audience can step back into the 1940s themselves in the theatre lobby during intermission. An old-fashioned Christmas Bazaar will come alive with characters in ‘40s costumes selling homemade Christmas treats made from classic family recipes dating back to that period.

JHS Special Needs students will also be baking their own famous recipes and selling them in the lobby during intermission. A real old-fashioned Santa, ready for visits with the little ones, and a 1938 Goldman’s Department Store holiday tableau depicting Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves building toys, will be awaiting photo opportunities. There will also be a silent auction of old-fashioned treasures and Chamber Choir students in period costumes singing a cappella Christmas Carols under the direction of Mrs. Leslie Rajchel.

Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults; and group rate is $5 for 10 or more tickets purchased in advance.

Gilt Edge serving on Thanksgiving

Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 Green St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor a community Thanksgiving day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 26 at the church.

Donations sought for Shop With a Cop

Clarksville Police Department’s Fraternal Order of Police No. 144 is seeking donations to help fund its annual Shop With a Cop program.

Officers and members of the department will purchase gifts with children in need Dec. 13 at Wal-Mart in Clarksville. The retailer has donated money to the effort.
