Charles R. Leatherbury, the New Albany man who faces numerous child molesting charges, was arrested Tuesday morning in Shepherdsville, Ky.
A warrant was issued by New Albany Police detectives for the 43-year-old Leatherbury on Nov. 24 after a 15-year-old female family member reported he had been having sex with her for years.
He faces three counts of class B felony incest and one count of class A felony child molesting, following an investigation by NAPD detectives Carrie East and Steve Bush, according to a press release.
The girl told a forensic interviewer with the Child Advocacy Center that Leatherbury began having oral sex with her when she was 7 or 8 years old, according to a probable cause affidavit.
She said in August 2006, when she was 12, he had vaginal sex with her for the first time and has done so at least 20 times since.
The girl reportedly told a school counselor three weeks ago — a day after Leatherbury allegedly entered her room, had sex with her and then threatened her not to tell anyone.
An examination concluded the girl had bruising consistent with sexual assault.
Leatherbury is being held in the Bullitt County Jail pending his return to New Albany to answer the charges.
