The Floyd Central and Henryville softball teams will each go up against area rivals in their respective sectional openers later this month, as both squads will try to repeat as sectional champions. Teams across the state learned the pairings for their sectionals on Thursday when the IHSAA conducted the state tournament draw in Indianapolis.
The Highlanders received a first-round bye and will face Jeffersonville in the Class 4A New Albany Sectional semifinals. The host Bulldogs will play Bedford North Lawrence in the sectional opener, while Seymour will take on Jennings County in the other first-round game.
Class A No. 9 Henryville will begin its sectional title defense at Lanesville, where it will open against Christian Academy of Indiana in a first-round game. The Henryville-CAI winner will take on New Washington in the semifinals. The host Eagles will play South Central in the other first-round contest.
Clarksville will host the 2A sectional, as it will face Brownstown in the sectional opener. The winner of that game will take on two-time defending sectional champion Pekin Eastern in the semifinals.
In the opposite bracket, Providence will play Austin in the first round. The other opening-round game will pit Paoli against West Washington.
In the 3A Crawford County Sectional, Silver Creek will face No. 10 Corydon in the opener with the winner facing No. 9 North Harrison in the semis. Charlestown will face the host Wolfpack in the first round of the lower bracket, while Salem will take on Mitchell.
