Henryville kept swinging some hot bats and now the Hornets are on their way back to the Class A Lanesville Sectional finals.

The defending champs clubbed four doubles and amassed 10 hits on Tuesday to defeat New Washington in the semifinal round, 10-0.

It was the second time in two sectional contests that Henryville has won a game by the 10-run rule. The Hornets topped Christian Academy of Indiana in the first round Monday, 17-0.

“We keep swinging really well,” said Henryville coach Jenny Odle, whose team improved to 25-4 with the victory. “It seems like over the past two weeks we’ve been hitting pretty well, and to be doing that at this point in the year is a big plus for our team.”

Hayley Hall, Ashley Dickerson, Amanda Embry and Kelcey Pierce each collected doubles in Tuesday’s victory. The Hornets led 2-0 through two innings before plating seven runs in the third.

The Hornets will now match up against host Lanesville in the championship round. The Eagles defeated South Central in Tuesday’s first semi, 5-1.

“They’re playing well,” said Odle about the Eagles. “I expect another battle against them.”

Class 2A Clarksville Sectional

• Providence starts fresh, downs Austin: After a season of frustrating losses, Providence took advantage of a fresh start in the postseason with a 7-4 victory over Austin in the Clarksville Sectional at Tim Hauber Field.

Maria Cochran had three hits, including a triple, in the victory for Providence. Teammate Natalie McDonough added a pair of hits and a double.

“We had a talk at practice on Monday and just discussed that all year we’ve been pointing to playing well at the end of the year,” said Pioneer coach Sean Payne. “All of the frustrating losses don’t mean a lot now because everything starts over. We played loose and had fun.”

Providence faces Paoli in the semifinals today. The Rams beats West Washington on Tuesday, 11-6.
