BASKETBALL: Clarksville center Windell sparks 42-28 win

All season, Clarksville girls’ basketball coach Troy Mitchell has been saying that if he can get some production out of his post players, his Generals can have a successful season.

On Saturday, junior Brittany Windell proved him right.

The 6-foot-3 center had 10 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots as Clarksville improved to 2-2 with a 42-28 win over Christian Academy of Indiana.

“I need to get a minimum of 20 points per game down low,” Mitchell said of the combination of Windell, Kiersten Hall and Shelby Foster. “I know I can count on my guards. So if we can get 20 points per game out of (his post players), we’ll be OK.

“Brittany was awesome tonight. She played her best game all year.”

Hall and Foster each scored four points in the victory.

The Clarksville guards also came through. Ashley Parrish had team and season highs with 15 points and also added five steals. Cassandra Mulford, who had led Clarksville in scoring in its first three games, finished with five points and five assists.

The victory was Clarksville’s second this season after going 3-18 last season.

“Last year (Christian Academy) beat us, so we were 1-3 at this point,” Mitchell said. “Our goal is to make small improvements. We have a long way to go, but I feel pretty good right now.”

Christian Academy (3-4) got nine points from Rachel Boesing, eight from Ollie Ballew and seven from Danielle Castleman. The Warriors will travel to West Washington to face the 1-2 Senators on Nov. 30

Clarksville is off until Thursday, Dec. 3 when it faces 2-1 Silver Creek, which beat Henryville, 68-28, on Saturday.
