Michael E. VanGilder, 83; WWII veteran

Funeral services for Michael E. VanGilder, 83, of Louisville will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 3, at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at home.

He retired from General Electric after 33 years and was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen VanGilder; children, Pam Warnkey and husband, John, Melinda Austin and husband, Sam, Michael VanGilder Jr. and wife, Scarlet; siblings, LaVerne VanGilder and Fred VanGilder; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, May 2.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Louisville.
