Deacon Joseph ‘Joe’ Patrick Wheatley, 70; of Floyds Knobs
Funeral services for Deacon Joseph “Joe” Patrick Wheatley, 70, of Floyds Knobs, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Albany. He died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Providence Retirement Home.
He was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Louisville in 1987. He was also a secular Franciscan and assisted at Mount St. Francis Center for Spirituality in Floyds Knobs. He was a retired manager of administrative services for the State of Kentucky for South Central Bell and served as chaplain to Norton Hospital, Louisville, for 14 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Providence High School and a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany.
He was born on April 16, 1938, in New Albany.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Judy Buren Wheatley; children; Jeff Wheatley and his wife, Hilary, of Georgetown and Jennifer Baylor, Cincinnati; son-in-law, Larry Baylor; and grandchildren, Ashley and Dalton Baylor and Conner and Keenan Wheatley.
Visitation at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7.
