Vercel Elwood Linton, 84; of Georgetown
Funeral services for Vercel Elwood Linton, 84, of Georgetown, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the Paul F. Kraft Sr. Memorial Chapel of Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, with burial in Marengo Cemetery. He died Monday, May 12, 2008, at University of Louisville Hospital with his family by his side.
He was a retired mechanic with International Harvester, a member of Masonic Lodge 480 in Georgetown and a United Methodist. He was a master carpenter and made many treasures for his family over the years. His pride and joy was his family and one of his hobbies was his 1964 Ford show truck with which he won many honors and awards.
He was born May 4, 1924 in Leavenworth to the late Archie and Mary Richardson Linton.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary C. Summers Linton; three sons, Vercel Ray and his wife, Patricia, of Sellersburg, Bruce and his wife, Gail, of Palmyra and Tony and his wife, Melissa, New Albany; a daughter, Karen Conrad and her husband, Gene, of Georgetown; four sisters, Beulah Campbell and her husband, David, of Leavenworth, Delores Garrison and her husband, Dewey, of Milltown, Mary Beth McIntosh and her husband, Harold of Brandenburg, Ky. and Judy Curts of Louisville; a brother, Donald Linton and his wife, Sue, of Marengo; nine grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Michael and Neal Linton; sisters, Dorothy and Bonnie Linton; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Linton.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 11 a.m. on Saturday.
